Appearance: Variol is tall for an elf at just over six feet, with long blonde hair pulled back into a tail and serious green eyes. His manner is usually serious and aloof.
Information: Variol was a member of the Knights of the Garland, a knightly order dedicated to defending the borders of his home country. When the outpost came under attack by a black dragon, killing many of the order, the rest set out in search of vengeance. The remaining members of the order tracked the dragon to its lair and slew it, but at a terrible price: all of the knights but Variol himself were killed in the attack. Variol swore to uphold the honor of his order as the last Knight of the Garland. Using the wealth of the dragon's hoard to arm himself with powerful weapons and armor, he set off alone.
Tactics: Variol's main strategy in combat is to single out the foe most likely to pose a threat to him and expend a use of his knight's challenge to compel that enemy to attack him. He will use all subsequent actions fighting that foe until they are defeated, after which he will challenge and engage a new enemy. If a foe has surrendered or is unable to defend themselves, Variol will stop attacking; however, if he believes that they are still a valid threat he will use the Sword of Mercy to knock them unconscious.
