Comparing the numbers of this critter to some CR 34s ( http://www.immortalshandbook.com/freestuff10.htm ) has led me to believe that this thing is VASTLY more powerful than CR 35. Not only that, but I showed this fellow to my ECL 20 players (with difficulty, they should be able to have some sort of chance to handle up to CR 40 at this point, and be able to at least flee from CR 80) and there was no contest, no chance, no capability of anything. This system finds the CR when ECL = CR. The WotC system, on the other hand, uses a system where in general, CR = (2/3)ECL. So it seems that by WotC standards, 35 is in fact an accurate CR for this thingy. While the 2/3 thing may work somewhat at lower levels, at higher ones, you really need the ECL, aka, the full three halves, in order to judge whether or not you should sic a monster on the party, I think.
