Ok ma'am, what did the suspect look like?

In the United States and Britain, detectives are trained from the more capable police officers who patrol the streets on foot and in cars. It is believed that only a streetwise cop should become a detective, and this kind of thing cannot be covered in training. Detectives travel in pairs or pods and wear plain clothes.

A detective's primary skill is to separate facts from witnesses. To this end, a detective must appear friendly and unthreatening. They also spend a lot of time interrogating hostile subjects, trying to catch them in a "misrepresentation of facts". It is essential that the detective not allow the suspect to know what they know. They participate in arrests and raids, however, so need some physical combat training.

Evidence collection and analysis is normally performed by crime scene investigators.

Detectives trained in Europe, outside of Great Britain, are frequently college-trained investigators instead. Instead of using the statistics below, they would probably use Smart levels and have the Investigator occupation.
