This uses the Brobdignagian template from the Immortal's Handbook, which is basically four repeated applications of the Dire template, which really just makes an animal one size catagory larger. In other words, the Brobdignagian template simply makes a creature four size catagories larger. That nicely takes the Hummingbird from Fine to Medium. And in the process, makes it the fastest creature I've ever seen statted out apart from the Nuetronium Golem, which has a movement rate just shy of the speed of light. This one may not be an interstellar critter, but it can certainly move.

I wanted to make a Medium sized hummingbird mostly because I had images of Pixies riding them to battle as steeds. I suppose even a Halfling or Gnome could do likewise.

Note that Brobdingnagian refers to the Island of Giants from Gulliver's Travels, by Johnathan Swift, where a medium creature would be considered "Fine" to the people there. Thus it's a very appropriate term for the template.

Exceptional Flight (Ex): A humming bird flies as fast as a creature 7 size catagories larger than it, except perfectly, and can use the Run action while doing so. While diving, the hummingbird gains the use of the Run feat as well.

Metabolism (Ex): A hummingbird's metabolism is so high it must more than its weight in food a day, in both insects and sugar water (mostly found in flowers). At any given moment, except when sleeping, a well-fed hummingbird is 1d4 hours away from starving to death. If administered poison, the secondary effect takes place immediately instead of a minute later. Ability damage is quadrupled, but also wears off in one fourth the time.

Sustenence (Sp): Twice a year, when migrating, the hummingbird acts as if wearing a Ring of Sustenance. This effect lasts for two weeks.
